Robotics on the rise: development forecast until 2026

Over the past seven years, there have been ups and downs in the development of robot installations. But since 2021, one record year has followed the next. In the past three years, however, there has been a steady increase in the number of industrial robots installed worldwide. According to forecasts by the International Federation of Robotics, the growing number of operational robots is set to continue in the future. Find out which developments are expected in the coming years according to the World Robotics Report 2023.

Approaching 600.000 installations in 2023

A further increase in industrial robots is forecast for this year compared to 2023. This means that 622,000 units are expected worldwide in 2024. An increase is also expected in 2025 (662,000 units) and 2026 (718,000 units) compared to the previous year. Overall, global robot installations can therefore be expected to increase by around 7%. “I’m a deep believer of robots being a big part of work and how we see work in the future and this is what drives the vision and mission along the way – that robots will enter many parts of our professional lifes”, says robomind's CEO Tobias Rietzler about current developments.

But how does it compare internationally? Asia and Australia together install far more industrial robots each year than Europe or America. According to the forecast, there will even be an increase of 7% in the next few years up to 2026. Europe follows in second place, but at a considerable distance. Only a slight increase of 3% is expected here by 2026. If we look at America, this continent brings up the rear in terms of annual installations of industrial robots. However, an increase of forecast to increase by 6% by 2026. According to forecasts, global investment in robotics will remain strong in the future. Even if America and Europe continue to install new industrial robots, Asia's lead will be difficult to catch up with.
